LICS Evaluation of Translation Quality based on the quality metric in accordance with SAE J2450

Clients of translation service providers (TSPs) may obtain a comprehensive evaluation report showing the quality of translations delivered to them by one or more given TSPs.

The LICS® Evaluation Scheme for 2nd Party Conformity Assessment specifies the procedure to evaluate the quality of translations with regards to given client specifications.

Evaluation reports in accordance with this LICS Scheme state the result of the evaluation of target texts delivered (in one or more  given language pairs) as specified by the client. Evaluation reports will be established using the translation quality metric in accordance with the standard SAE J2450:2005-08 Translation Quality Metric.

Translation service providers (TSPs) may obtain a certificate in accordance with the LICS® Certification Scheme for 3rd Party Conformity Assessment proofing the quality of translations produced by the TSP.

Samples shall be taken under the control of a LICS Lead Evaluator either by audit sampling or by remote audit sampling. The sample size to be taken shall be at 5.000 words of translated text taken from at least 5 different client projects finalised during a period of 12 months preceding the evaluation for each language pair to be certified. Samples shall be taken from a representative number of different clients.

By the certificate, TSPs can provide proof that their translations are subject to surveillance by a third party and that the quality of these translations achieves a certain quality level based on the quality metric of the standard SAE J2450:2005-08. The certificate is complementary to the EN 15038 certificate for Translation Services.

The LICS Evaluation of Translation Quality based on SAE J2450 is organized by the International Network for Terminology (TermNet).
